Socialist visions and policies are invading the United States, with record numbers of the younger generations leaning toward a more favorable view of socialism. What does this mean for us as Christians and the Church as a whole? Take the quiz below to see if you can separate the facts from the fiction.
True or False: The socialist system does not match the type of world described by the Scriptures during the End Times.
FALSE. The rise of socialism could pave the way for the Antichrist’s one-world system of government prophesied in the Bible (Revelation 13).
True or False: The founder of socialism, Karl Marx, was anti-God.
TRUE. Karl Marx viewed Christianity as a source of oppression that needed to be eradicated in favor of the state.1
True or False: Marxism has killed more people than both World Wars combined.
TRUE. In 1999, The Black Book of Communism found that Marxism caused more than 92 million deaths worldwide during the twentieth century. These devastating statistics defy the merciful and life-giving foundations of the Gospel.
True or False: One of the benefits of socialism is that it redistributes wealth to prevent poverty.
FALSE. The pretense of socialism is the promise of equitable wealth among everyone in society. However, in practice, it has never worked out that way. Instead, the poor become even poorer while the few entrusted to redistribute the wealth become richer. Far from the evil roots of socialism, a society built upon the desires of God truly brings help and care to the impoverished (Leviticus 23:22; James 1:27).
True or False: We can look to the Scriptures for direct guidance on understanding socialism.
TRUE. The Bible may not call out socialism by name, but it affirms many of the economic principles that socialism tries to undermine while condemning the behaviors it boasts. Find out more on what the Scriptures say about socialism.
True or False: When it comes to socialism, the best thing for us is to stay out of it and not pay attention to it.
FALSE. In 1 Corinthians 16:13, Paul urges us, “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” Socialism is an attack on biblical Christianity. In these tumultuous times, we need to stand firm on the truth of God’s Word and remember the truth about socialism’s deadly consequences.
True or False: We cannot stop the tide of socialism—it will always be this way.
FALSE. There is unspeakable power in obeying God, boldly proclaiming His truth, and drawing strength from our fellow believers. These tools can help us stem the tide of socialism. More importantly, our hope is in knowing that one day, the victorious, risen Christ will destroy the powers of evil that seek harm. Isaiah 9:6 assures us that “the government will be upon His shoulder.” Isaiah 2:4 states that Jesus will “judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.”
No matter what happens in today’s politics, we have this promise: Jesus secured the ultimate victory. He is coming back to rule over the earth, and His rule will be perfect.
